Preface

So, I know the title of this blog is very original. Nonetheless, I want to simply share my appreciation for watches because I think they're pretty neat. They're wonderful little gadgets--combining, art, physics, math, engineering, and craftsmanship--all into one, harmonious little package of pure awesomeness. I'm not talking about Timex or digital watches here. I am talking about Swiss watches. Switzerland is known for its watch-making techniques. Swiss watchmaker's are the best in the world at what they do and Swiss watches are expensive for that very reason.

Although any digital or electronic clock records the time more accurately than any Swiss mechanical movement, it's not about keeping perfect track of time. With that said, the mechanical accuracy of Swiss watches is amazing. Although there is often 2oo-300 individual-simultaneously-moving parts inside of a Swiss movement, Swiss watches are able to maintain accuracy to as much as losing only a 1/2 second of time over a one month period. That is rather remarkable when you think about it. Swiss watches are hand-made by certified watchmakers that go to school for learning how to build watches. They are made with the best (i.e. most durable and expensive) materials (i.e. sapphire crystal lenses, titanium or stainless steel cases, fine leather bands, etc., etc.).

Many of you have heard of Rolex (they basically make the best Swiss watches a person can buy), Tag Heur, Movado, Breitling, Omega, Longines, etc...Most watch enthusiasts are aware of many more. However, there are a lot of other good Swiss watches out there and I want to bring them to light. I can appreciate watches because of their craftsmanship and pure God-given creativity. We're made in God's image. Therefore, we like to create things. Watches epitomize Man's creativity. I hope you enjoy this blog or at the very least gain an new-found appreciation and love for Swiss watches.
