I wanted my first post of this blog to encompass My Dream Watch. I just have to get it out there on the table. My dream watch is nothing very fancy or impressive, or gaudy by any means. It does not contain diamonds or gold--nothing flashy. However, my dream watch is made very good. It is very durable and is a work of art. It combines science and engineering with pure art. This watch I speak of is none other than Rolex's Deep Sea Dweller.
The Deep Sea Dweller is awesome because it is the only watch in the world that has a water resistance to a depth of 3,900 meters (12,800 feet). That means it is capable of withstanding up to 2.98 metric tonnes of water pressure without being damaged or destroyed. It has a helium-escape valve which allows it to equalize the pressure inside of the itself with the pressure outside of the watch--preventing it from being crushed. Like any other Rolex, its lens is composed of Sapphire crystal (one of the hardest substances on earth) making it scratch-resistant. It is also a Swiss Automatic Movement meaning that it is self-winding (no batteries or solar power needed).
It's a Rolex, so as long as it is maintained properly--there isn't any reason it shouldn't last a lifetime or two. So, why haven't I bought it yet? Because it costs about $8,400.00 and let's face it, I'm not a millionaire. If I never get the privilege of wearing one in this lifetime, I'm sure I will in the next. As I said, it's not the most aesthetically-pleasing watch (as you can probably tell from the picture), but it encompasses toughness, ruggedness, and beauty--all in one package.
